I talked with Richard Watts recently for a piece he wrote for ArtsHub on Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) at Edith Cowan University. WAAPA’s adaptation of my novel The Hope Fault was featured as one of the highlights of the 2019 performance season, and Richard also talked with writer/director Andrew Hale, who’s adapting the novel for the stage.
‘The book has a phenomenal sense of time in it. It covers the whole sphere; geological time, structured time, personal time, private time, dream time. The beautiful challenge in adapting it to the stage is the essentialising out of a thread that ties that all together. Tracy’s beautiful book gives us a family in flux,’ [Hale] said.
The world premiere season of The Hope Fault runs from 11-17 October 2019 in the Enright Studio at WAAPA. Bookings open to the public on 17 September 2019 (find performance times and bookings on WAAPA’s website).
