I’ve had my head down lately, trying to avoid social media (it was making me anxious) and write a book. I’m still working on both. But I’ll be working on them from Western Australia for the next month or so, as next week I take up a month-long writing residency at Fellowship of Australian Writers (WA) – more on that when I move in next week.
For now, here’s a heads-up about events I have coming up this month while I’m in WA (or take a look at Fremantle Press news item Tracy Farr on tour).
In conversation at Beaufort Street Books, 19 September
We launched my first novel, The Life and Loves of Lena Gaunt, at Beaufort Street Books with an ‘in conversation’ event with the lovely Geraldine Blake four years ago this month, so I’m thrilled that they’re having me back to talk about The Hope Fault.
Details: 6.15 for 6.30pm Tuesday 19 September, Beaufort Street Books – more details and link to tickets
In conversation at Dymocks Busselton, 21 September
Cassetown, the fictional setting of much of The Hope Fault, isn’t the Busselton suburb of Vasse, but – in my mind – it’s not far from there, so I’m excited to be in conversation at Dymocks Busselton on 21 September, talking about The Hope Fault in the place this book has its beginnings.
Details: 6.30pm Thursday 21 September, Dymocks Busselton – more details and link to tickets
Writing workshop at FAWWA, 23 September
‘Where’s home for you?’ is a question that I (Melbourne-born, Perth-raised, New Zealand-based) often find hard to answer. As I settle in for a month as FAWWA CAL Established Writer in Residence, join me for a workshop exploring State of Origin.
Details: 1-4pm Saturday 23 September, Mattie Furphy House, Swanbourne – more details and how to book
This is the first of two workshops I’ll run during my residency – details on the second workshop (7 October) are here.
The Bad Diaries Salon Volume 3: REGRETS, 27 September
The Bad Diaries Salon is a salon series where writers read from their early works – diaries, poetry attempts, first novels and other juvenilia – whether great, terrible, candid, embarrassing, or all of the above. The Bad Diaries Salon Volume 3 Perth: Regrets features Brooke Davis, Laurie Steed, Annabel Smith, Jenny Ackland and me, on the theme of REGRET.
Details: 6.30 for 7pm Wednesday 27 September, 399 Bar, Northbridge – more details and link to event listing on Facebook
October events – details to come
I’ve got more great events coming up in October, too: I’m in conversation at The Grove library (Cottesloe) with Emily Paull on 4 October; my second FAWWA writing workshop is on 7 October; I’m hosting a few social and writing events at Mattie Furphy House for FAWWA in early October, before I finish my residency; and I’m very excited to be chairing an in-conversation event with a stupendous Australian/New Zealand writer in mid-October, when I get back to Wellington. Details to come soon (keep an eye on my EVENTS list).
